16240. (burgee) Yacht Club Burgee on Wooden Jack Staff. Sacramento Yacht Club c.1930’s. Distinctive early yacht club burgee is red white and blue on wool, sewn. 20″ by 27″. Pennant is made of wool , tip worn 3” from use, tears at hem, moderate to heavy mothing. Original wood pole is 35″ long. Believe that it dates to 1930’s-40’s. The Sacramento Yacht Club (South River Road, West Sacramento Cal.) is the oldest boating organization in the Sacramento River-Delta region. SYC’s official founding dates to 1929, with roots reaching back to rowing clubs in the 1800s. The club called several locations homeport, but in 1947 purchased a former Navy barge and used it as a clubhouse for more than three decades. Early yacht club burgees are quite difficult to find.
