3004. U.S Coast Guard. Damage Control Book USCGC Chautauqua WHEC-41 c.1968.

3004. U.S Coast Guard. Damage Control Book USCGC Chautauqua WHEC-41 c.1968. 78 pages in Coast Guard screw-post binder. Folio 11” x 17” with numerous (11) colored fold-out 17” x 27” diagrams. USCG Chautauqua (WHEC-41) was an Owasco class high endurance cutter which served with the US Coast Guard from 1945 to 1973. Originally intended for World War II service, she was commissioned only days before the end of hostilities and consequently never saw combat. Damage control is a vital function which may make the difference between the saving or sinking of the ship. This book serves as the principal source of information on the ship’s characteristics and data vital to the prevention and control of damage. Damage control books are a living document, for they are of no value is the information is not up to date. Thus this book has written changes as well, made as they occurred. Book is thoroughly illustrated with large fold-out diagrams of Flooding Effect & Loading, the ship’s systems including Drainage, Fuel Oil Filling & Transfer, Oily Ballast, Vemtillation Supply and Exhaust, Compressed Air, Casualty Power Supply, and more. Much of the information contained in this volume can be applicable to other Owasco class high endurance cutters. Book is as originally used on board the cutter, some soiling and wear, edges of fold-out plates worn but all intact. A great artifact and resource. (VG). $145.
