15108. (signed poem) Joseph C. Lincoln Signed Poem “Fifty Years Ago” c.1921. Rare printed poem by noted Cape Cod author Joseph C. Lincoln is entitled “Fifty Years Ago” and was written for the Golden Wedding Anniversary of George and Melvina Hopkins, August 9, 1921. The 6 stanza poem is printed on a 10 inch by 8 wide folded paper which opens to 10 inches by 16 wide and is inscribed in ink by Mr. Lincoln: “To Mr. and Mrs. George W. Hopkins with Sincerest Good Wishes, Joseph C. Lincoln”. Joseph C. Lincoln is a well-known and prolific Cape Cod author who was born in Brewster and had a summer house in Chatham on Cape Cod. This may be one of the few copies of this poem in existence and is likely the only copy signed by Mr Lincoln. Also included is a disbound portion of the April 1901, Vol VII, No.3 issue of Ainslee’s Magazine which includes the 7 page story Through Fire and Water by Joseph Lincoln with 5 black and white illustrations by W.A. Berger. In the story the Captain of the life-saving station seeks the hand of Miss Patience Doane, who kept house for her brother at the station. Poem has 3 vertical folds which are very worn and has some edge wear. Paper is soiled and there are a few creases, otherwise condition is good. (G+). $55.
