1439a. (photo) Wreck of the Dragger Cape Ann on Nauset Beach c.1948. On March 6 the 84 foor New Bedford scallop dragger Cape Ann grounded on Nauset Beach in Eastham near Nauset Lighthouse. There was a heavy swell running and the dragger was heavily iced up. The crewman at the wheel said the he mistook Nauset Light for the Pollock Rip Lightship. The crew was saved but the vessel was a total loss. The Nauset Rod and Gun Club, organized in 1947, salvaged the wheelhouse to be used as a trap house, which was placed this on town owned land west of what is now Ocean View Drive. Clear view measures 3 ¼” x 5”. (VG+). $18.
