1514. (photo) U.S. Navy Direction Finding Station and Home of Isaac Small, Ship Reporting Agent, at Highland Lighthouse c.1931. Fine clear view provides a great look at the buildings and antenna of the U.S. Navy Direction Finding Station from the clay cliffs. A Naval Radio Station for intelligence monitoring was established at the Cape Cod Highland Light in 1904. The Navy Direction Finding Station at North Truro assumed great importance during World War I and was guarded by a detachment of U.S. Marines. The site would be used as a U.S. Coast Guard radio traffic facility from 1939 to 1943. In addition, the site was for sixty years the home for Isaac Small, the marine reporting agent stationed at Highland Light, whose duty it was to report by telegraph incoming shipping to the owners in Boston. Dated on back August 15, 1931. Measures 7 ¼” x 9 ½”. Clean, clear. One of the better views that I have seen of this station. (VG+). $74.
