1484. (photo) Freighter Ozark Aground off Pamet River Coast Guard Station c.1927. Early press photo measures 8” x 10” and provides great detail of the Ozark aground in the surf on the Truro beach. On June 23, 1927 the freighter Ozark rammed and sunk the steam trawler Surge in heavy fog off Truro. The Surge sank immediately. Nineteen crewmen went into the water and were rescued by the Ozark’s crew, with three more missing. The collision left the Ozark with a gaping hole and she was forced to beach herself 3 miles from the Pamet River Coast Guard station in Truro. Only the calm seas prevented a larger loss. Dated June 1927. With description on back. Light wear. (VG) $28.
