Great digital copy photograph, clear image from original photo, shows the 1882-Type life saving station 3 ½ miles SW of Montauk Lighthouse. This original station is believed to have been built in 1856. A new site was acquired in 1886 and a the station was “reconstructed and enlarged.” Shown near the turn of the century, this close detailed view includes the station and out-buildings, flag mast and other details as the crew poses in the background. Clear close view measures 7 ¼” x 9 ¼” overall. Some darkening from age, light soiling, a few small spots, expected edge wear. Rare large close view. (VG-). $165.
