By 1940 there were 457 minor and major lights in Alaska , 15 fog signals, 316 buoys and much more. The book describes the role of the Lighthouse Service in Alaska from the 1860’s until 1938 and then continues with the work of the Coast Guard since. Includes historical summaries of light stations, architectural descriptions, wonderful early photographs and much more. Over 80 photographs include brass hardware, post lights, buoys.
