Written as an interview with several old-hands at a life saving station on the Jersey Coast, includes anecdotes, discussion of the history of the lifeboat service in Britain and the U.S., pilfering of wrecked ships, life saving apparatus, etc. A scarce reference to early coastal lifesaving services in the New Jersey and Long Island area, with mention of several shipwrecks.
