In 1985 Brendan Conway signed up with Ireland’s lighthouse authority Commissioners of Irish Lights as a temporary lighthouse keeper and worked on some of the most beautiful lighthouses in the Republic of Ireland. He was stationed on the Tuskar rock, Rockabill, Skellig Michael, Bull Rock, Fastnet Rock and Baily. As a child he lived on Wicklow Head lighthouse; holidayed on Mizen Head while is father was stationed there in the 1970s; and visited Kish Bank lighthouse on a number of occasions while is father was stationed there in the 1980s. He has written about his experiences working at all of these lighthouses. An interesting account of an unusual career. (M). $21.95. (x)
