Coast Guard Cutter the Bear on her last journey to the Arctic , trapped in the ice north of Unalaska. When advised of the situation, Coast Guard headquarters radioed “to give her up”. The Bear made 49 trips to the arctic to search out icebergs and carry mail and supplies to remote villages, before becoming pinched in the ice and given up.
