2953. (chart) PRELIMINARY CHART (A NO. 13. MUSKEGET CHANNEL, MASSACHUSETTS 1854. U. S. Coast and Geodetic Survey. Scale 1/60,000. Lovely, very large 22” x 29” original Coast Survey chart has been later hand colored to detail features of Muskeget Island (Nantucket), Martha’s Vineyard from West Chop Lighthouse SE to Cape Poge and Chappaquiddick Island, as well as a small portion of Falmouth and all of Nantucket Sound in the area. Included on the chart are sailing directions for the area, tides and currents for the area, and soundings. Light-Houses, Light-Vessels and buoys are denoted as are major towns and features. This chart has been beautifully colored and has great visual aesthetics. Included is a hand colored “telescopic view” of Cape Poge Lighthouse, as well as two hand colored recognition views of the area from East Chop to Wasque Bluff. Chart is in unusually good condition, overall clean and bright save one or two spots, with only light wear to original folds. Left margin has paper added nicely to replace margin lost when this was originally removed from its binding. Matted or not, this chart would certainly display impressively in a fine wood frame. Shipped rolled. (VG). $345.
