33148. (chart) Penobscot Bay, Maine #104. USCGS. Edition of October 1880.

  1. (chart) Penobscot Bay, Maine #104. United States Coast and Geodetic Survey. Edition of October 1880. Printed December 1889. Scale 1” = 1 1/8” nautical mile [1/80,000]. Bright, very large detailed original Coast Survey chart includes all of Penobscot Bay including Long Island, North Haven, Deer Isle, Vinal Haven Island, Isle Au Haut, and more. Chart includes all Life-Saving stations in service at the time. Also shown are all lighthouses, buoys, towns and features and more. The area has numerous shoals and bars, hundreds of islands, and the entire area is exceedingly treacherous. Included on the chart are bearings, tides and currents for the area, and soundings, and more. Chart is in good condition, overall clean, light age toning, light edge wear and soiling, few small edge tears. Buoys are highlighted in red. Rare early chart. These very early coastal maps are most desirable for display and bring a premium. Wonderful for matting and framing. (VG).  $34.
