Rare early report includes extensive details of operations and of rescues throughout the year. Also details personnel, construction and repairs of stations and equipment, evaluation of new equipment and much more. Also includes detailed discussion of the organization and evolution of life-saving services from the 1840’s to the present service. Includes results of testing of various early devices including the Ryder raft, self-righting life boats, experiments to extend the range of shot line, and examination of keepers and crews throughout the districts, with dismissals of many listed for cause.
