A book like this should be published on every state, for the history provided is exceptional. By 1940 there were 457 minor and major lights in Alaska , 15 fog signals, 316 buoys and much more. The book describes the role of the Lighthouse Service in Alaska from the 1860’s until 1938 and then continues with the work of the Coast Guard since. Includes historical summaries of light stations, architectural descriptions, early photographs though poorly reproduced, and much more. Clean, tight. (VG+). $42.
