969. Scoville, Dorothy R., SHIPWRECKS ON MARTHA’S VINEYARD. Gay Head. 1972

  1. Scoville, Dorothy R., SHIPWRECKS ON MARTHA’S VINEYARD. Gay Head. 1972. 64p. Soft Wraps. Illustrated with five vintage photographs. Martha’s Vineyard has been ringed with wrecks over its hundreds of years of maritime history as huge waves gather strength from the wide Atlantic and beat unendingly against its sandy shoals and shore. In this local work the author relates the tales of many of the more important shipwrecks, from before the year 1870 when the keeper of Gay Head light reported 26,470 vessels passing by his tower until 1972 when the Ellen Lucille came ashore on Squibnocket Point in Chilmark. Interesting reading of this interesting location. Some underlining, wraps some soiling and staining. (VG+). $18.
