9400d. na. FIFTY YEARS OF GLASS MAKING 1869-1919. Macbeth-Evans Glass Company, Pittsburgh, Pa. 1920

9400d. na. FIFTY YEARS OF GLASS MAKING 1869-1919. Macbeth-Evans Glass Company, Pittsburgh, Pa. 1920. 94p. Stiff wraps. Numbered presentation copy No. 2572. Many do not know that Fresnel lenses were made in America, but by 1899 the firm of Macbeth-Evans was founded, who would become the world’s largest producer of lamp chimneys, and was approached by the U. S. Lighthouse Service to produce Fresnel lenses [see #9441 American Made Fresnel Lenses by Tom Tag]. By 1932 Macbeth-Evans would be producing some lighthouse lenses, and still more lightship and buoy lenses, the only company in the United States to do so. This rare history presents a detailed look at the company, its development over the years and the products that were produced. A most desirable relic of this important segment of lighthouse history. Clean, spine worn, signatures becoming loose, some wear to covers and edges, library copy with such markings. Nicely illustrated. (G+).  $52. (ask for discount)
