PROGRAM AND RULES OF THE SECOND COMPETITION FOR THE SELECTION OF AN ARCHITECT FOR THE MONUMENTAL LIGHTHOUSE WHICH THE NATIONS OF THE WORLD WILL ERECT IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC TO THE MEMORY OF CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS TOGETHER WITH A REPORT OF THE INTERNATIONAL JURY, THE PREMIATED AND MANY OTHER DESIGNS SUBMITTED IN THE FIRST CONTEST. Pan-American Union, 1930. Folio, blue cloth, 187 pp., 2 folding plans, many plates, some in color. A fine copy. An extremely rare account of the contest held to pick an architect to design a memorial lighthouse on the coast of the Dominican Republic, in the memory of Christopher Columbus. The Pan American Union, which included the United States voted in 1927 to complete this project and raise the necessary funds. This scarce text is filled with over a hundred photos and diagrams of proposals for such a lighthouse with descriptive text, including many most extravagant designs. Clean, crisp, in very good condition. Quite sought after, usually retails for $400+. (VG+). $285 net. Closeout $138.
