November 14, 1850. 74p. A most interesting report on investigations and construction of the above lighthouses with considerable detail into the construction process and difficulties encountered. Most interesting is the description, in detail of the construction of the iron lighthouse at Minot’s Ledge and investigation into it’s condition the following year. The writer notes that “…I was much gratified to find on my arrival that all appeared well…and I satisfied myself that the structure was in good condition as it was [when built]….I call to your attention a matter less agreeable…Various idle rumors and some ill-natured and vindictive reports have been circulated for some time in regard to the alleged insecurity of the Minot Light….” The next year the light would succumb to the “alleged insecurity” denied by the inspecting engineer. Most interesting reading and important information. (Photocopy $15.80).
