9179. Roberts, Cheryl Shelton and Bruce. MOVING HATTERAS – Relocating the Cape Hatteras Light Station to Safety. 1999. 19p. Soft wraps. There has been a lighthouse here since 1803. In this wonderful booklet published by this noted author and photographer, in cooperation with the National Park Service, we now have a clear view into the history of this historic station and the process used by International Chimney Corporation to pick up and move the 198-foot tower, oil house and double keeper’s dwelling. In over 26 color and b/w photos and diagrams the authors detail the removal of the foundation, shoring, placement of main beams, cross beams, roll beams and the lifting of the tower itself. A wonderful look at this intricate process to save these historic structures. Signed by the authors. [Photo by Bruce Roberts.] Great reading at only $4.95. Reduced to $2.50.
