Rare letter requesting appointment as Keeper:

“[to Hon. L. Cass, Senate. Treasury Department. 3 March. 1848
Sir:
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of … of the 1st. accompanied by a letter from Mr. Wm. Dickinson recommending E.. Ryan for the appointment of Keeper of the light to be erected at Green Bay- & to inform him that they have been placed in file & shall have respectful attention when the appointment is made.
I am very respy.
