Twentietht Ed. New York. June 1864. 840 pp. The history of the United States Coast Pilot extends back many centuries, when Edmund March Blunt (1770-1862) published the American Coast Pilot in 1796. Blunt’s Coast Pilot was not the first book of sailing directions, or even the first such book concerning American waters. However, it was the first book of American sailing directions published in the United States. In addition to complete sailing directions, included are a few charts, harbor descriptions, and courses and distances, weather data, lighthouse and lightship information, and much more. Missing wraps, frontis and title pages as well as last page. However, .otherwise complete and intact. Some age toning, only occasional foxing, generally clean for the period. Excellent for research and reference. (FR-). $45.
