Offered are five original documents for an early 1900s from the files of Fred G. Vogel (1871-1921) Keeper Station #141, Rehoboth Beach DE (1915-1921).
Documents are original 8” x 10 and include:
Oath of office signed with a raised official seal dated 15 Feb 1915.
USCG Request for Leave to Superintendent 6th District USCG dated 8 Nov 1918.
Correspondence recommending promotion for surfman James E. King dated 17 May 1920.
Correspondence recommending promotion for lighthouse cook dated 13 Dec 1920.
Correspondence dated 20 Jan 1921 related to prior service in Marine Hospital Service.
The old Coast Guard [Life-Saving Service] station was located on the beach, abreast north end of Rehoboth Bay, 6-3/8 miles south by east of the Delaware Breakwater Light. It was built in 1878 and discontinued in 1821. Keeper Fred G. Vogel was appointed keeper on 27 April 1912 and was still serving in 1915. The station still exists as a private residence in Shipcarpenter Square in Lewes, Delaware. It was later replaced by the Indian River Coast Guard Station.
