- (early plan copy) U.S. LIGHTHOUSE ESTABLISHMENT. Early copy of hand drawn architectural drawings for : Point Loma Light Station, California. James F. Gregory. Engineer Secretary, U. S. Light House Board. Filed July 1st., 1890. In the early 1950s, Radio Corporation of America (RCA) introduced a variation on the copy process called Electrofax, whereby images are formed directly on specially coated paper and rendered with a toner dispersed in a liquid and this may be a copy of the original from that process or similar. Plan sheet measures 20” x 27 ½” and is on a vellum-like paper. This superb architectural view shows two elevation views and a plan view of the tall iron skeleton light tower, as well as enlarged sectional views of structural joints (foundation discs) of the tower. The National Park Service noted that this view is “for the New Point Loma light-tower, San Diego, Calif. This lighthouse was constructed to replace Old Point Loma lighthouse (now Cabrillo National Monument) which was frequently obscured (roughly 88 nights/year) by marine layer fog. Old Point Loma light was extinguished the morning of 23 March 1891, and the light house in these plans was first lit the evening of 23 March 1891. New Point Loma light is still an active (automated) navigation light operated by the U.S. Coast Guard.” Perfect for research or would look wonderful framed. (VG+). $145.
