  1. (copy plans) 1897 Thirty-Four Foot Self-Righting & Self-Bailing Lifeboat c.1897. 2 pages. 36” x 22” and 24”. The USLSS lifeboat was English in origin. They were longer than surfboats and heavier (about 4000 lbs.). They were most often rowed by eight oarsmen plus a stearsman, and they could also be sailed. They were used primarily on the Great Lakes. By 1899 as gasoline engines became more common and reliable, many pulling lifeboats were aonvirted to power boats. Plans are from the Great Lakes Maritime Institute and show excellent detail. (VG+). $26.
