31048. (copy photo) Monomoy Point Light Station c.1987 view. Digital print of HABS (Historic American Buildings Survey) photo shows the 1849 iron tower and later keeper’s dwelling located at Monomoy Point in Chatham on Cape Cod. The first (light station) lighthouse was built here in 1823. The one shown here was built in 1849 by Cyrun Alger & Co. You can see the brick oil storage house in the right hand side of the picture which was built in 1894. Originally built in response to Federal period growth in coastal traffic, the Monomoy Point Light Station is an early example of a cast-iron fixed coastal light. This photo was taken in 1987 after a restoration of the keeper’s dwelling. 8 ½” x 11”. (F). $21.
