Featured on our web site and in our monthly web catalogues are new and out-of-print books, documents, post cards, photographs, maps and charts, engravings, lithographs, uniforms and insignia, tools, lamps, lens apparatus, equipment and apparatus and much more relating to these heroic services.

We now issue most of our catalogues on line rather than by mail. This allows us to issue more catalogues and feature more items, with better photos and descriptions. Let us know your email address and we will email you monthly as our catalogues are posted.

2817. (hat) Early Kepi, U. S. Lighthouse Service insignia.

2817b. (hat) Early Kepi, U. S. Lighthouse Service insignia. Early wool képi dates from 1860-1870’s era and is in as found condition, fitted with two 5/8” U. S. Lighthouse Service buttons holding bullion chin strap. Front is fitted with a 1 1/8” lighthouse pin in gilt finish brass, pin back. Kepi is in good overall condition, intact with dark visor, black beneath, manufactured by “Louis E. Stilz & Bro, Phila”. Kepi is old and original, as are the buttons and chin strap. Was it a lighthouse Keeper’s hat – maybe or may have been put together – you be the judge. Nevertheless, the early kepi and the buttons are worth the price alone and it will make a great display piece. Wool kepi has light mothing, some worn areas, stitching coming loose on brim, but interior pristine. Unusual. From New York antiques dealer in the 1990’s.  (VG). $245.
