28126v. (uniform) U.S. Coast Guard Dark Navy Blue Uniform Jacket, Senior Chief E8, Machinist Rating. Serving from c.1943-1960. Offered here is a difficult to find WWII Coast Guard enlisted blue uniform jacket, 6-button double breasted. Jacket is lined and is not sized. It may be custom made as the service ribbons are sewn on and insignia are high quality bullion embroidered. Buttons are brass of the period. On left arm is beautiful bullion Senior Chief Machinist Rating with one bullion star above, and 4 service stripes (16 years), on right arm is a gold bullion Coast Guard shield. The condition is quite good with no noticeable areas of wear or defects. Manufacturer’s tag by Kuppenheimer. A look at the ribbons reveals the owner’s history (thanks to H. Connors USCG Ret. for the following): Ribbons from right to left starting at the bottom: United Nations, Korean Service Medal; Korean Service Medal; National Defense Service Medal; WW II Occupation Medal; WW II Victory Medal; Asian Pacific Campaign Medal WW II; American Campaign WWII; Navy Good Conduct Medal; Coast Guard Good Conduct Medal. (With 3 stars denoting 16 years of CG good conduct service.). From his ribbons I assume his service started early in WW II, with him enlisting in the Navy. He shipped over to the C.G. after his hitch in the Navy. He probably served until at least the early 60’s. He served in Japan after the War as part of the occupation force. Went to Korea in some fashion. Was probably one of the first wave to be advanced to Senior Chief as those “super rates” (Senior and Master Chief, E8 and E9 respectively) weren’t created until 1958. He had 4 years of Navy service and 16 years of CG service.” Great history, quite rare. Wonderful find. (VG+). $174.
