BD-1. (mounted photograph) Original portrait photograph, Life-Saving Service Crew, Quoddy Head, Maine.  c.1905-1910. Photograph by Fairfield Studio, Calis & So. Eastport, Maine. This rare posed portrait photograph shows the handsome crew of young surfman proudly posing with the keeper and a woman on the station boat ramp. The woman is holding a rolling pin in the photo is the keeper’s wife Grace D. Guptill, also the station cook. The photo itself measures 4.5″ by 6 ¾” on a 7” x 9” grey mount. The crew of the West Quoddy life-saving station at Carrying Place Cove in Lubec c.1905-1910: Seated left to right: Grace D. Guptill (cook/wife of Captain Guptill), head keeper Capt. Clifton M. Guptill. Standing left to right: Billy McIsaac, Vern Reynolds, Ira Scoville, Frank Smith, Alphon Van Wormell, Ulysses Dyer Wilcox [as researched by Ms. Den Baldwin of Lighthouse Digest Magazine.] This is an exceptionally rare view both for the location and the presence of a family member, and that we know the names of the persons pictured. This station was built “near West Quoddy Head Light” in 1873 and until 1 June 1883, it was carried in the records as West Quoddy Head station. This is unusually close and clear,  one of the better images we have had in some time. Light edgewear to mount and one hole in mount from hanging on wall. A perfect piece for framing, publishing or research. (VG+). $365.

BD-2. (mounted photograph) Original portrait photograph, Keeper Capt. Clifton M. Guptill Life-Saving Station Quoddy Head, Maine.  c.1905-1910. Photograph by Fairfield Studio, Calis & So. Eastport, Maine. This rare posed portrait photograph shows Keeper Guptill posing seated with his binoculars in hand. Crystal clear, a very fine close image. Clifton Marcus Guptill was appointed Keeper at Quoddy Head Life-Saving Station on May 22, 1902, and serving until his reassignment to the Hampton Beach Station on October 2, 1926; he returned on November 4, 1927, and retired on September 1, 1930. Image measures 4” x 5 ½” on 6” x 9” light grey mount. Only very light edgewear to mount. A perfect piece for framing, publishing or research. (VG+). $365.
