27140. (commemorative spoon) c.1900. U.S. Life Saving Station on the Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal, Wisconsin.

  1. (commemorative spoon) c.1900. Beautiful large commemorative spoon bears a detailed engraved image of the Life Saving Station on the Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal. The spoon was produced by Mechanics Sterling Company (the flatware branch of Watson, Newell Co.) sometime circa 1890, and featuring a highly-detailed engraved image of the life saving station at the North side of the Lake Michigan end of the Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal. The Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal is a shipping canal connecting Sturgeon Bay on the Bay of Green Bay with Lake Michigan, across the Door Peninsula at the city of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. The spoon measures 5 15/16″ long, by 1 1/4″ widest bowl width, and is in marvelous overall condition for its age, with surprisingly little surface wear from decades of polishing. Nicely detailed little commemorative piece and an extremely rare and desirable location, commemorating this interesting life saving station. (VG+). $88 net.
