20238r. (cup / saucer set) United States Revenue Cutter Service “U.S.R.C.S.” Dinnerware.

20238r. (cup / saucer set) United States Revenue Cutter Service “U.S.R.C.S.” Dinnerware. Scarce, original United States Revenue Cutter Service demitasse cup and saucer set in the rare later intertwined  “U.S.R.C.S.” pattern. This is a scarce original china dinnerware set from the United States Revenue Cutter Service manufactured of heavy white institutional type china, in the latter years of the Nineteenth Century and early years of the Twentieth Century for use in ships’ wardrooms. Cup / saucer are quite attractive, with little if any  expected light wear, free of any cracks or major defects. This pattern is the later pattern used some time before the service was combined with the Life Saving Service to form the Coast Guard. The pattern is done in rust and turquoise, and consists of one rust colored stripe around the perimeter bordered by two thin turquoise stripes. Beneath, in a rust colored shield, are the letters “USRCS” in an intertwining pattern. This pattern would be continued into the early Coast Guard with only the letters changed to “USCG”. Dish is back-marked “M China L” (Maddock Lamberton). There are no other markings visible. Saucer measures 4 5/8” diameter. Cup measures 2 ½” diameter by 2 ¼” high. This is a lovely pair, and is complete, no chips, with little or no expected wear. In wonderful condition. An extremely rare pattern.  (F-). $885.

Maddock Pottery Company (Lamberton Works) was in operation from 1892-1923.
