- (document) Certificate of Enrollment / Bond for Sloop “Hawk” in the coasting trade and fisheries of the United States. Grand Island, Vermont. June 27, 1836. By the Act of 18 February 1793, all vessels over 20 tons engaged in the domestic coasting trade or the fisheries, in order to be entitled to the privileges of ships of the United States, had to be enrolled. The document was issued by the customs surveyor, or the collector, and the enrollment qualifications and procedures, were the same as those for registering ships. Certificate is clean, filled out and signed in hand, with three wax seals. Great for framing. Measures 8” x 12”. (VG+). $24
