2330. na. FIFTIETH ANNUAL REPORT OF THE SEAMEN’S FRIEND SOCIETY…. MAY 6TH, 1878. NY. 1878.

  1. na. FIFTIETH ANNUAL REPORT OF THE SEAMEN’S FRIEND SOCIETY…. MAY 6TH, 1878. NY. 1878. 199 p. Original soft wraps. The Seamen’s Friend Society worked over the years to improve the social, moral and religious condition of seamen, to protect them from becoming a curse to the world. The society published books and monthly journals for the seamen’s reading needs, sailor’s home for destitute retirees and more. In addition to merchant seamen, their work touched the lives of lighthouse keepers and life-savers as well, mentioned herein. One interesting note is mention of the life of the life savers at Forty Mile Point on Lake Huron and Good Ground on Long Island, where the society’s traveling libraries were gratefully received. Interesting reading on the little known life of American seamen. Unusually good condition, near fine. (F-). $33.
