Consists of eagle perched with wings expanded, head to eagle’s left (pre 1948) and right (post 1948), chevrons indicating wearer’s rate, and a specialty mark indicating wearer’s rating, all embroidered on a shaped background. Chief Gunners Mate. The deck group of the Navy/Coast Guard before 1948 wore rates on their right arm which is why the eagle faces left (forward). Very rare set indicating the two periods of use.
