13201. (souvenir plate) Mayo’s Beach Light and Keeper’s dwelling, Wellfleet, Mass. c.1900.
13201. (souvenir plate) A rare, bright, gilt decorated rose and crème colored commemorative plate featuring a beautiful clear, detailed color image of the Mayo’s Beach Light and Keeper’s dwelling, Wellfleet, Mass. c.1900. One of the few of this rare lighthouse that I have found, this striking piece measures about 7 1/8” in diameter and is enhanced by a beautiful decorative gilded border and handle. The unusually detailed image includes all aspects of the new cast iron tower and brick and clapboard keeper’s house built in 1881. This light station as shown, remained in service until it was discontinued on March 10, 1922. The light station property was sold at auction on August 1, 1923, to Capt. Harry Capron. Nice detailed image on the bright china piece and rose coloration make a good contrast on this rare item. Marked “Altenburg China Made in Germany for Geo. P. Baker, Wellfleet Mass ”. Quite clean, bright, light wear to gilding. A beautiful display piece. Unusually large, bold view of this little-known Cape Cod lighthouse. (VG+). $295.
