14258. (photo) Point Montara Light Station, California (Tower from Mayo Beach Light, Wellfleet, Mass.) c.1985. Superb close clear original 8” x 10” Coast Guard photo shows great detail of the cast iron light tower and fog signal building, etc. Point Montara Lighthouse was established in February 1875. It originally had a kerosene lantern, but was upgraded in 1912 to a fourth order Fresnel lens. The current tower was first erected in 1881 in Wellfleet, Massachusetts as the Mayo Beach Lighthouse. In 1925, Mayo’s Beach Light was discontinued and the cast iron tower was disassembled and moved to Yerba Buena. It was moved and rebuilt as the Point Montara Light station in 1928, where it stands today. Photo is b/w and includes date and description on back. Clear and close view. Dated February 1985.
