15179. (photo) Dollar Lines Steamer President Hayes Aground at Monomoy Point, Cape Cod c.1931. Clear, close original 7” x 9” press photo shows great detail as the steamer President Hayes, aground off Monomoy Point, awaits high tide to free her from the sand. The vessel, which had discharged her passengers at New York and was proceeding to Boston with 1,000 tons of cargo, missed the light at Monomoy Point and ran ashore. Coast Guard cutters can be seen standing by as they await a high tide. Photo is b/w and includes credit line and description on back. Dated Jily 11, 1931. Clear and close view. (VG+). $44.
