14217. (negative) U.S. Navy Direction Finding Station at Highland Lighthouse, View from Light Tower. Fine clear, close view taken from the light tower provides a good view of the buildings and antenna of the U.S. Navy Direction Finding Station at Cape Cod’s Highland Lighthouse. A Naval Radio Station for intelligence monitoring was established at the Cape Cod Highland Light in 1904. The Navy Direction Finding Station at North Truro assumed great importance during World War I and was guarded by a detachment of U.S. Marines. The site would be used as a U.S. Coast Guard radio traffic facility from 1939 to 1943. Negative measures 4 ½” by 3 ½” and is clear, will make superb prints. In original envelope. (F-). $44.
