13395. (lot) Bill of Sale & Registration, A.P. Hurst, Keeper Deep Water Shoals Lighthouse, James River, Virginia c.1924-1934. Bill of sale from Cobbs Creek Garage for a Star touring car to A.P. Hurst and his son W.B. Hurst of Port Haywood, Virginia. Also includes 1934 registration for the auto. At one point A.P. Hurst was Keeper at the Deep Water Shoals light station. Deep Water Shoals Lighthouse was built in 1855 on the James River northeast of Fort Eustis on the shoal on the right side of the channel. It was a small screwpile lighthouse, white with a red roof, and with a masthead lens. During the winter of 1867 the lighthouse was completely destroyed by ice flows. In 1868 a new lighthouse was built on wooden pilings with a sixth order Fresnel lens. The lighthouse was deactivated in 1936. $44.
