1955. Light-House Establishment. Specifications for a Wooden Framed Dwelling for Two Keepers and Two Beacons on Tramways on Morris Island, Charleston Harbor, South Carolina. Government Printing Office, Washington, 1869. Soft wraps. 6 x 9″. 21 pages. In March 1867, Congress appropriated $15,000 for range lights on Morris Island. In 1869, three additional light beacons were built. The third beacon was a 35-foot skeleton frame tower, enclosed at the top with a lantern and seven-foot watch room. Included are complete specifications for the main dwelling and attached kitchens, with a veranda in front of main building and both kitchens. Also includes specifications for two beacons designated as “A” and “C” including towers, beacons and tramways, and more. This pamphlet originally accompanied a set of drawings (not present). Complete, wraps present, chipped and some soiling but still unusually good condition. Text is complete, clean and unmarked. Rare important booklet. (VG). $485.
