- Menz, Katherine B. Sleeping Bear Point Life-Saving Station (1902-1915)/Coast Guard Station (1915-), Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, Frankfort, Michigan – Historic Furnishings Report. National Park Service. Harpers Ferry. 1983. 275p. Soft wraps. Sleeping Bear Point Lifesaving Station is an excellent reminder of the stations constructed by the U.S. Lifesaving Service (U.S.L.S.S.) during its 44-year existence (1871-1915). The original station building was among the thirteen constructed using that designby Albert Bibb between 1891 and 1894. It still stands among the windblown sands of Sleeping Bear Dunes and is a poignant monument to the lifesavers it once housed. Report is thoroughly illustrated. Detailed report describes all property items issued to and used at the life-saving station. Report is extensively researched and details all items issued to the station with a great deal of information about each, and then presents an interpretive plan for the current museum with recommended artifacts to properly convey the life and work of the life-savers. Thoroughly documented with plans, illustrations and reports. Superb information. Wraps worn, soiled, contents clean, tight. (VG). $76.
