33151a,b. (glass plate negatives) U.S. Life-Saving Service Crew, Newburyport, Mass. c.1890. Large original glass plate negatives measure 5” x 8″ and show marvelous detail of the Keeper and 7-man crew posing on the boatramp of the Bibb #2 type station in Newburyport on Massachusetts’ North Shore. Based on other negatives in the lot, the photographer may be Charles Houghton or J. Winder. Images are clear and close. Both glass plate negatives have been cracked and broken but have been held together by clear package tape. However they can still be scanned or printed and retouched to produce unusually good prints. Great detail of dark summer and white winter working uniforms. Glass plate negative has been scanned as a positive to show image detail. (G) $75 each or $130 for both.
