12243b. (axe) U.S. Lighthouse Service c.1900-1930’s. Early original U. S. Lighthouse Service carpenter’s axe. The head measures 5 ½” wide and 11 ½” flat to edge, overall 27 ½” long to top of wood handle. Head is marked with the early stamped marking “U.S.L.H.S.” on both sides, and also boldly branded “U.S.L.H.S.” on the handle. This is a rare early compliment of the station toolchest. Complete, in very good condition, with some expected wear. (VG+). $2,495.
